SO….drumroll….Meet my Grandfather! Robert C. Bruce Jr…..writer, actor, narrator, producer and…(Yes! Blessed with the same Scottish, Braveheart, Mel Gibson name thing as those before him!)
He started his life in 1914 on an apple farm in Washington State (a little random considering they never actually grew any apples??) and followed his father into entertainment via theatre and as one of the regular “Voices of Radio” in the early days. “The Shadow” (1936-38), “Fibber Magee and Molly” (1939-53) and “The Tommy Dorsey Show” were a few of his regulars. I can still hear his voice…it’s an impresssive and memorable one….and very much missed…(and, I think he’s pretty handsome too although I might be just a bit biased:)
And….UH…..What’s Up Doc???
Ever wake up as a child and spend your mornings watching Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig? Classic! Well, you were probably spending your mornings with Robert C. As a Narrator for Warner Brothers Cartoons, both Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies (1938-59), he spent a good portion of his career dedicated to entertaining America with his voice. And who wouldn’t love a grandpa who can make funny faces and funny voices all at the same time???
So, enough history for now…thanks for obliging! There are a few more days before the final countdown…so more to come. Til then!
